Creating your Signature Wedding Drink

Make it one-of-a kind.

Your wedding day means incorporating personal touches that make you happy. Whether that’s playing your favorite song, decorating with your favorite color palette in mind or having your cute furry friend (we’re taking about the four-legged one) walk down the aisle as your ring bearer. One personal touch that’s simple and really lets both of your personalities stand out is serving a signature cocktail. It’s fun, playful and just what you’re going to want to sip when it’s time to party the night away with your closest family and friends.

So, how do you come up with the perfect signature drink? That’s what we are here to help you concoct!

First things first, you must go into this with the mindset that it’s meant to be enjoyable and not add stress with another “to-do” item on your list. Collaborate with your partner and have fun coming up with the drink. (Psst, getting tipsy along the way wouldn’t be so bad either.)

A few steps you can take going into process:

Make a list of drinks

Sit down with your partner and make a list of what liquors and general flavors you both really enjoy. Once you’ve made the full list, try narrowing it down as much as you can to the top 4 or 5. This will make it easier when you start talking to a mixologist and experimenting with flavors.

Work with a mixologist

A mixologist is really just a fancy name for someone who is skilled at making cocktails and other drinks. If you have friends that know a thing or two about making drinks, then put them to work! If you don't have any cocktail pros in your friend circle, consider hiring a professional mixologist to help you create custom wedding cocktails based on your tastes. Half the fun is in the process so try new flavors and keep an open mind, who knows, you might even discover your new favorite drink!

Try it out at home

If you’re more of a DIY type of person, you can experiment at home! Pick up some spirits, syrups, juices and cocktail garnishes and try different mixtures. You can even make a little party out of it and invite some friends and family members to test it out with you.

Don’t go overboard on the cost

We all have some sort of budget in mind, unless you were successful in getting that money tree to actually grow, so be mindful of liquor costs. If you’re on a tighter budget, you can scratch the fancy liqueurs and top-shelf spirits. You don’t need the most expensive alcohol for cocktails to taste good. As long as you are mixing good ingredients well together, then you’re going to have a tasty concoction. If you do hire a mixologist to create your drink, make sure to give them a price limit so they don’t surprise you with an expensive price point.

Mocktails are all the craze

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been seeing more and more mocktail options on menus, and I’m not mad about it. Tasty, affordable AND I don’t wake up with a hangover? Count me in. Considering not everyone on your guestlist will be drinking alcohol, it wouldn’t be a bad idea to have at least one signature mocktail on your list. These could be your chosen signature cocktails sans the alcohol, fresh juices, non-alcoholic sangria and much more. There are a lot of options you could take.

Put a name on that drink and make it yours!

Once you have your drink(s) of choice, it’s time to be creative and name it! Name it something that reflects your personalities, incorporate your names or relate it your wedding theme. Maybe it’s even a funny inside joke from your first date? Anything is possible and nothing is too cheesy, because remember, it’s all about what makes you happy at the end of the day.

So cheers, and enjoy your signature cocktail dancing the night away!
